Why Shop discriminately?

Recently after deciding to turn a hobby into a business I thought it was important to teach my children the importance of reading labels on products. The first lesson began at breakfast on Saturday morning. Saturday mornings are a big deal in our household. There is no such thing as a small weekend breakfast. Saturday mornings are for moving slower, feasting, and spending time together.

This particular morning we were having delicious biscuits right out of the oven with jelly, bacon, and eggs. Many months ago, in a pinch, I had picked up a bargain brand “strawberry preserves”. On the first tasting of these preserves I knew, without even looking at the label, that this product was total garbage. The taste was syrupy, nut fruity, the texture was drippy, not chunky with fruit. I had been duped. After looking at the label it was all confirmed; Strawberries, High fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, sugar, fruit pectin, citric acid. I hated the thought of throwing money away so the jar literally sat in my fridge for two house moves and over eight months. Today was the day, and the label lesson was the perfect send off. After pulling out my favorite blueberry preserves and showing my children the difference in ingredients compared to taste, it was very clear to everyone that what goes into the things we consume matter. More importantly, what we put into the product we make matters the most.

Our lip balm has simple ingredients, that are sourced responsibly. Organic ingredients are used whenever possible. Our labels are easy to read and easy to understand. Nothing but good things are in there. Try it out, I promise it’s better than a lot of the “big guys, with big labels”.
